Laura Hutton, more affectionately known as “Hutt,” is not your mama’s violin teacher. Raised in the foothills of Appalachia, she loves playing and teaching traditional folk and bluegrass music along with the standard violin repertoire. This love for musical diversity has brought Laura to performances of all kinds: from bluegrass with folk legend Ralph Blizzard, to chamber music at Lincoln Center, to her newest obsession - traditional Mexican folk and Mariachi bands.
With a bachelor's degree in violin performance from Covenant College and a musicology intensive from the University of Oxford, Laura teaches and freelances in the New York City area. Her greatest passion is teaching with the Corona Youth Music Project since 2014. Exercising her background and training in the Suzuki method, Laura specializes in beginning strings regardless of age with acute attention to technique.
